Booklight Reader’s Theatre 2010-11 Season

Ignite! Community Theatre proudly announces the Sixth Season of our Booklight Reader’s Theatre.

September 10 & 12: A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams The play reveals to the very depths the character of Blanche du Bois, a woman whose life has been undermined by her romantic illusions, which lead her to reject—so far as possible—the realities of life with which she is faced and which she consistently ignores. The pressure brought to bear upon her by her sister, with whom she goes to live in New Orleans, intensified by the earthy and extremely "normal" young husband of the latter, leads to a revelation of her tragic self-delusion and, in the end, to madness.  Auditions August 5, at The Blue Door Theatre

December 10 & 12: Sorry! Wrong Chimney by Jack Sharkey & Leo W. SearsDavid Tuttle is moonlighting as a department store Santa so that he can buy his wife a fur for Christmas. He tells her he's working late at the office, but she finds out he isn't at the office. A suspected other woman, hypnotism, the notorious Santa burglar Kris Kreigle and his gun toting fiance, and a confused policeman add up to a rollicking tale that is hilarious Christmas or anytime entertainment.  Auditions November 4, at The Blue Door Theatre

January 21 & 23: A Night in the Theatre by Lawrence CaslerMargaret and Stanley Locker and their friends, Donna and Walter Pace, are at the theatre for their weekly dose of culture. This week's ordeal is Hamlet. After they seat themselves with some confusion, the play consists of their incessant and hilarious chatter about themselves, their children, a dead friend and even occasionally Shakespeare's play. Secrets emerge and friendships unravel amid the audience's laughter. You may even recognize these rude playgoers as the obnoxious people who sometimes sit behind you.  Auditions Dec. 16, at The Blue Door Theatre

March 11 & 13: The Merchant of Venice by William ShakespeareIn one of Shakespeare's greatest dramatic comedies, The Merchant of Venice is the tale of two merchant men who borrow money from the shrewd, famed Jew, Shylock, in order to help one solve his financial woes and win the hand of his beloved.  As he does so across the seas, the debt is defaulted and the friend left behind must pay the consequences of their contract - a pound of flesh.  While a trial begins to dispute the legality of the claim, the clever bride secretly steps in and saves the day!  Auditions Feb. 3, at The Blue Door Theatre

May 13 & 15: West Moon Street by Rob UrbinatiYoung Lord Arthur is deliriously happy – just down from Oxford and engaged to be married – when a mysterious palm reader predicts that he will commit a murder. A proper English gentleman, Arthur believes it is his Duty to get this killing business over with before he marries. But his education has not provided him with the required skills, and a hilarious series of mishaps ensues as he sets about finding a victim.  In the style of witty and wonderful Oscar Wilde, Urbanati’s play is full of charming twists and banter.  Auditions April 8, at The Blue Door Theatre
